December 2-4: Workshop on Integrated Water Resources Management for South and Southeast Asia

The Helsinki University of Technology (Finland) and the Third World Centre for Water Management (Mexico) with the support of the Finnish International Development Agency, are organizing a workshop on 'Integrated Water Resources Management for South and Southeast Asia' from December 2-4, 2002 at the AIT Conference Center.

The event will be participated in by distinguished speakers like the Secretaries of Water Resources of the Governments of India, Bangladesh, and Malaysia and renowned experts from the region. Dr. Olli Varis from Helsinki, a former Finnish seconded faculty member of AIT and Dr. Asit Biswas from Mexico, who has been associated with AIT for a long time are co-hosting the workshop.

December 11-13: International Conference on Innovations in Food Processing Technology and Engineering

There are signs depicting the demand for large quantities of high quality foods in Asia-Pacific region. As a result, there has been a rapid growth in food processing industries to meet the needs of domestic consumption as well as export. This has necessitated greater understanding of food processing operations for ensuring food safety and quality. Therefore, the utilization of existing technologies and adoption of new innovative technologies would continue to demand greater attention and emphasis.

To meet such challenges, the International Conference on Innovations in Food Processing Technology and Engineering is being organized by Processing Technology Program in the School of Environment, Resources and Development, Asian Institute of Technology, Bangkok, Thailand.

The objective of the conference is to provide a forum for presentation and discussion of the current and new developments in food processing technology and engineering along with dissemination of relevant information among scientists, engineers, technologists and other professionals in the region.

The theme of the conference is on the developments and innovations for enhancing the implementation of advanced technologies in food industry.

The conference is open to all regions of the world, and participation from the Asia-Pacific region is particularly encouraged.

The technical program will include plenary and keynote lectures, parallel lectures and poster sessions.

December 11-13: EPSM training workshop on HVDC TRANSMISSION and FACTS TECHNOLOGY

The main topics that will be covered are as follows:

  • HVDC vs. HVAC transmission
  • Principal parts of HVDC transmission
  • Selection of converter configuration
  • Analysis of converters
  • HVDC controls
  • Converter faults and protection
  • Transient analysis of HVDC line
  • Introduction to FACTS technology
  • Basic types of FACTS controllers
  • Power system analysis with HVDC and FACTS controllers
  • Enhancing power system performance with FACTS controllers.

The registration fee is US$200 (8,000 Baht) per participant. For
attendees from government agencies, state enterprises, or universities, the registration fee is US$175 (7,000 Baht).

Accommodation can be arranged at AIT Conference Center or a hotel near AIT upon request of participant.
