LEAD International Workshop on Sustainable Development: Cross Border Resource Flow & Management in Greater Mekong Subregion and Megacities & Rural Community Development.

Objective:

Leadership for Environment and development (LEAD) is a global network of people and organizations committed to sustainable development. LEAD has a decade of experience designing, developing and implementing high quality, multi-sectoral training and development for international audiences. These range from facilitated workshops for groups from 10 to 200, to virtual conferences, training-of- trainers sessions, and the LEAD 18-month training program on leadership and sustainable development. The LEAD Capacity Development Team specializes in providing training in sustainable development topics and a suite of leadership skills including: team-building, system thinking, negotiation and conflict resolution, cross-cultural communication among others.

The overall goal of the program is to enhance the knowledge, values and skills for future decision-makers to develop national and international policies that emphasize the environmentally sustainable and socially equitable use of resources.

The specific objective of this workshop is to provide first hand experience of issues related to trans-boundary resource flow in regional development through the case study of the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) and to consider the key challenges facing megacities and analyze the practices and institutional mechanism that different cities are using to meet those challenges. Bangkok and GMS will serve as the case study area to focus this exchange of experiences.

The workshop will seek to

  • explore multiple dimensions of trans-boundary resource flow in regional development through the case study of Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS)
  • promote the understanding of regional issues associated with common resource like Mekong River
  • understand the impact of international development projects at the regional level
  • strengthen Associates' capabilities in cross-cultural communication, problem-solving and decision-making and effective analytical and presentation skills through a final reporting process on the session.
  • Urban-Rural relations
  • Challenges within the megacities

January 14-16, 2004:: International Conference on 'Electric Supply Industry in Transition: Issues and Prospect for Asia' will be held at the AIT Conference Center.

The conference are co-organized by Power Systems Engineering Research Center (PSERC, more than a dozen leading universities in the USA, including Berkeley), University of Technology, Sydney, Australia, and Asian Institute of Technology. The conference is coordinated by Professor Surapong Chirarattananon, SERD, AIT

The conference focus will be on 'Electricity Supply Industry in Transition': pertinent issues and prospects for Asia. The topic is timely as most of the utilities around the world, including developing nations, are changing the way they do businesses in electricity supply. A variety of people, power utilities, private power producers and academic institution, are expected to benefit from this conference.
