16 - 18 May 2005 & 3 - 5 August 2005: Workshop on on-line course delivery by VClass will be offered by the Internet Education and Research Laboratory (intERLab) to all AIT faculty and staff. The course will cover well-designed sets of exercises, hands-on case studies, and experiments on the use of VClass to support teaching and on-line course offering. Following the workshop, a clinic will be set up by intERLab/DEC to support faculty for their course development. 6 - 10 June 2005: International Conference on 'Modeling Tools for Environment and Resources Management (MTERM)'. The conference will be coordinated by the Water Engineering and Management (WEM) FoS staff in cooperation with the faculty members of the Modeling Tools for Environment and Resources Management (MTERM) and will be held at the AIT Conference Center.

Interested persons are invited to submit their research/technical papers related but not limited to the broader themes listed as follows:

  • Integrated Water Resources Management
  • Modeling of Water Resources
  • Water Quality Management and Modeling
  • Air Pollution Modeling

A two-day pre-conference training workshop on 'Governance of Transboundary Waters' will also be conducted in collaboration with 'The Universities Partnership for Transboundary Waters' (http://waterpartners.geo.orst.edu)

23-25 June 2005:: International Symposium on 'Floods in Coastal Cities under Climate Change Conditions' to be held at the AIT Conference Center, which is coordinated by the Regional Network Office for Urban Safety (RNUS) / SCE / AIT and sponsored by the Asia Pacific Network for Global Change Research (APN).

The main objectives of the symposium are to bring together researchers, academicians, practitioners and decision makers working in related areas, to:

  • discuss about impacts of floods in coastal cities under climate change,
  • discuss and identify gaps in existing disaster mitigation policies and provide guidelines and strategies for improved policies for flood risk management in coastal cities under climate change condition, and
  • raise public awareness about risk of sea level rising and coastal flooding.

A workshop is planned for demonstration of several case studies on assessment of socio-economic impacts of floods in coastal cities in South and South-east Asia under climate change conditions, which are carried out under a APN supported project. Any other case studies related to the themes of the symposium are welcome for demonstration.

28 June - 9 July 2005: UT-AIT Intensive Program on Sustainability - Food and Energy will be conducted for students from the University of Tokyo, AIT and Alliance Partner for Global Sustainability (AGS).
