26 - 29 July 2005: Training Workshop on Power Distribution System
organized by the Electric Power System Management, SERD, will be held
in Room ET 238, Energy Building, AIT.
The Power Distribution System
Electricity is indispensable for social and economic development of a nation
and providing it in the economical and secured way to urban and rural consumers
is one of challenging tasks. Delivery of electricity to the end users requires
efficient and reliable distribution system. So far, the growth of power distribution
networks, especially in developing countries, has been in relatively unplanned
directions due to various economic and political reasons. This has resulted
in lengthy low voltage feeders, increase in losses and voltage drop, etc. Only
recently, power utilities have started paying more attention to well planned
expansion and better reconfiguration of the distribution network. Also as electric
power technologies have advanced so rapidly, there is a great need of training
and education on emerging issues on power distribution system, such as applications
of FACT devices (so-called Custom Power) and Distributed Generators (DG) to
distribution networks. The in-depth knowledge on management, planning and future
trends of power distribution system is essential to policy makers, planners,
managers, academicians, etc.
The main objective of this training workshop is to familiarize participants
to some of the recent concepts and development of power distribution network.
The participants will be given the opportunity to attend the lectures delivered
by eminent experts in this area and discussions related to power distribution
system. Also it will be a great opportunity to share related experiences of
participants from different utilities of different countries.
