Experts talk on dispute prevention and resolution on mega construction projects

The School of Engineering and Technology (SET) and Roads Association of Thailand will organize a seminar on 'Dispute Prevention and Resolution on Mega Construction Projects' on Thursday, 7 December 2006, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., at Windsor Suites Hotel, Bangkok. The seminar will be opened by Prof. Stephen O. Ogunlana, faculty member of SET, AIT.

An extensive one-day seminar, the event will cover an overview and problems of construction dispute management process by comparing Thai's mostly-utilized practice and Western practice widely used in the U.S. The guest speakers will openly discuss about the gaps between the two practices and corrective actions to fill out the gaps. Attendees will gain better understandings of construction dispute management and its problems, needs for managing disputes and how to go successfully internationally through a proper construction dispute management process.

The seminar covers various topics as follows:

9:15-10:15 a.m. - 'Construction Dispute Management in Thailand' by Dr. Chotchai Charoenngam, AIT.

10:30 – 11:20 'Construction Dispute Resolution in Thailand – Legal Perspective' by Khun Saovakon Sangsubhan, Senior Lawyer, International Legal Counsellors Thailand Ltd.

11:20 – 12:10 a.m. 'Construction Dispute Management in the U.S.: Demonstration of Case Studies on Mega Projects' by Dr. Apirath Prateapusanond, Managing Partner, Warner/PPP Consultants

1:10 – 2:10 p.m. 'Effective Dispute Prevention and Resolution and Generic Construction Dispute Analysis Process in the U.S.' by Dr. Apirath Prateapusanond, Managing Partner, Warner/PPP Consultants.

2:10 – 2:55 p.m. 'Federation of Consulting Engineers (FIDIC) Dispute Resolution Processes' by Dr. Wannawit Taemthong, King Mongkut's Institute of Technology – North Bangkok (KMIT-NB)

3:10 – 3:40 p.m. 'Construction Dispute Management – Siam Paragon' by Khun Noppadol Jaisue, Project Director, Siam Paragon Project & Managing Director, Project Alliance

3:40 – 4:40 p.m. Open Discussion – 'Gap or Problem Identification (Comparison of the two practices of construction dispute management) and Possible Corrective Actions for the said Gaps' by Khun Noppadol Jaisue, Dr. Wannawit Taemthong, and Dr. Apirath Prateapusanond.

This seminar is a 'Must' for Thais going inter & a 'Right-Thing-to-Do' for Thais working together. Targetted participants are project sponsors, project managers, constrsuction managers, contract/commercial managers working in an international construction environment or a part of a mega project, commercial professionals, those engaged in construction disputes in Thailand, and construction lawyers and consultants involving in dispute management.

The seminar will be conducted in Thai language. All attendants will receive a certificate from AIT.

Registration fee (if payment and registration received by 20 November 2006) is THB4,000. Regular fee is THB4,500. The fee includes lunch, refreshments and seminar kit. A discount of THB500 for the participants who are AIT faculty, staff, or students, and the members of the following associations: American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE), Engineering Institute of Thailand (EIT), Contractor Association, The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators Association, Society of Professional Engineers Thailand (SPET), and Road Association of Thailand.
