11 April: A special lecture on “Water Knowledge Initiative for Asia-Europe Collaboration”

The AIT community are invited to attend the first lecture of a series of lectures by leading figures in the area of water, organized by Dr. Khin Ni Ni Thein, AIT Vice President for Development and Resources. The lecture on "Water Knowledge Initiative for Asia-Europe Collaboration" will be given by Professor Michael Barry Abbott on 11 April from 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. at the Milton E. Bender Auditorium. 

Professor Abbott is known as the father of Hydroinformatics.  He received his P.h.D from University of London in 1962, and worked at Southampton with one of the earliest commercially available digital computers, constructing the first code for cylindrical shell roofs. After 4  years in Denmark (with what later became known as the Danish Hydraulic Institute,or DHI), he joined the International Institute of Infrastructural, Hydraulic and Environmental Engineering widely known as IHE, Delft in the Netherlands in 1966, first as a professor then later promoted to senior Professor and became Emeritus Professor in 1996.  His main disciplines are computational Hydraulics and Hydroinformatics.
