TSF’s response to Typhoons Ketsana and Parma

Telecoms Sans Frontieres (TSF) will make a presentation on its response to Typhoons Ketsana and Parma. The TSF team has just returned from the Philippines after providing communications both to the humanitarian community and to those affected for almost one month.

Two AIT students, Albane Coeuquetin and Fanny Gaborit were part of the TSF team which installed Emergency Communication Centres (with Internet, phone and fax lines) for the National Disaster Coordinating Council and the United Nations. They also offered free local and international calls to those affected. TSF deployed three telecom centers in the most affected regions and provided an opportunity to more than 1000 families to call their loved ones either in the country or abroad.

This presentation will be an opportunity to meet with the TSF team and to share the experience and show how AIT is making a difference with TSF in emergencies across the region. Another TSF team including an AIT student (Frederic Leduc) was deployed to the Samoa Islands in response to the tsunami which devastated the island early October. TSF was also deployed in Indonesia at the same time after the terrible earthquake which struck the Padang region.
