Lessons Learned from Thailand Flood Disaster and Future Directions for Flood Prevention and Mitigation’

ASEAN Affairs and AIT are organizing a symposium on ‘Lessons Learned from Thailand Flood Disaster and Future Directions for  Flood Prevention and Mitigation’ on 21 December 2011 during 9:00 am - 11:30 at the Rembrandt Hotel, Bangkok.

The purpose of the symposium is to discuss about lessons learned from the current flood situation and possible measures to be taken for future flood prevention, including LIDAR  (Light-detection and Ranging). The prominent invitees for the symposium include AIT alumnus, Dr. Waheed Uddin (LIDAR expert from US) and Mr. Chawalit Chantararat (water expert from TEAM Group) along with Dr. Masahiko Nagai (Geoinformatic Center at AIT) and
Mr. Swarup Roy (ASEAN Affairs).

Prof. Waheed is a Professor of Civil Engineering at the University of Mississippi, USA will share about the U.S. experience with the use of Airborne LIDAR Remote Sensing for Flood  Mapping and Infrastructure Planning. Dr. Uddin is recognized for his extensive experience in this remote sensing technology. He is also the Director of the Center for Advanced Infrastructure Technology (CAIT) at the University of Mississippi.

Other renowned experts in water management as well as remote sensing and geographic information systems will also be invited to share their knowledge and experience on the subject. One of the outputs of the symposium is to evaluate modern remote sensing technologies for flood prevention and mitigation. Detailed program can be found at this link.
