Seminar on “Disaster Risk Management: Examples and Case Studies from Japan”

 A seminar on “Disaster Risk Management: Examples and Case Studies from Japan” will be organized on 3 September 2012 at the Milton E. Bender Jr. Auditorium from 1300-1500 hours. Organized by the Disaster Preparedness Mitigation and Management (DPMM) field of study, the seminar will feature three DPMM students Ms. Pham Thi Hong, Ms. Atrida Hadianti and Ms. Veronique Morin.

The topics which will be covered by the students include ‘Community Awareness and Informal Education for Earthquake Risk Management’ by Ms. Pham Thi Hong; ‘Urban Planning for Flood Mitigation in Kyoto, Japan’, by Ms. Atrida Hadianti; and ‘Management of Disaster Waste: Lessons from the 2011 Tōhoku Earthquake and Tsunami’ by Ms. Veronique Morin.

The three students have been selected for Certificate Program for Exchange Graduate Students on disaster risk mitigation, recovery, and reconstruction for re-inventing Japan.

This interdisciplinary educational programme spanning a five-year period from 2012 - 2017 is a University Project by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports Science and Technology (MEXT) of Japan. The Consortium of International Human Resource Development for Construction of Disaster Resilient Countries is an initiative of Kyoto University and ASEAN Alliance Universities that includes the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Chulalongkorn University, Kasetsart University, Institut Teknologi Bandung, University of Malaya, Vietnam National University.
