Seminar: Introduction to Eco‐political and Economic aspects of Natural Resources Management with examples from Southeast Asia

Abstract
The presentation is meant as an introduction and outline of a potential course on eco‐political and economic aspects of natural resources management in the context of Southeast Asia. Based on recent popular culture, ‘Avatar’, different themes of the movie are highlighted and put into context of topics relevant to different theories. These theories are also drawn upon in eco‐political aspects of Natural Resources Management (NRM), which is more widely referred to as political ecology. Different themes of political ecology are distinguished.

A preliminary literature review explores political ecology regarding different aspects of water resources (dam development, irrigation systems, river basins) and forests management within Southeast Asia. Some initial key observations are offered.
