December 2-4: Workshop on Integrated Water Resources Management for South and Southeast Asia
The Helsinki University of Technology (Finland) and the Third World Centre for Water Management (Mexico) with the support of the Finnish International Development Agency, are organizing a workshop on 'Integrated Water Resources Management for South and Southeast Asia' from December 2-4, 2002 at the AIT Conference Center.
The event will be participated in by distinguished speakers like the Secretaries of Water Resources of the Governments of India, Bangladesh, and Malaysia and renowned experts from the region. Dr. Olli Varis from Helsinki, a former Finnish seconded faculty member of AIT and Dr. Asit Biswas from Mexico, who has been associated with AIT for a long time, are co-hosting the workshop.

December 11-13: EPSM training workshop on HVDC TRANSMISSION and FACTS TECHNOLOGY
The main topics that will be covered are as follows:
- HVDC vs. HVAC transmission
- Principal parts of HVDC transmission
- Selection of converter configuration
- Analysis of converters
- HVDC controls
- Converter faults and protection
- Transient analysis of HVDC line
- Introduction to FACTS technology
- Basic types of FACTS controllers
- Power system analysis with HVDC and FACTS controllers
- Enhancing power system performance with FACTS controllers.
The registration fee is US$200 (8,000 Baht) per participant. For
attendees from government agencies, state enterprises, or universities, the registration fee is US$175 (7,000 Baht).
Accommodation can be arranged at AIT Conference Center or a hotel near AIT upon request of participant.
