April 20, 2004: 'New Trends in Precision Manufacturing Processes' Microelectronics Seminar will be delivered by Ioan D. Marinescu, Ph.D AIT Visiting Professor & Fulbright Fellow And Professor and Director Precision Micro-Machining Center College of Engineering University of Toledo Toledo, Ohio, USA. The seminar will be held at 1:00 p.m. in room IE-106, Chalerm Prakiat Building.

Abstract:

Most of the industrial companies are looking today at new processes in order to replace 'old', traditional manufacturing processes. The requirements of the 'new' processes are better accuracy, better surface
quality and what is very important is higher productivity and efficiency.

The seminar will focus on two of these new trends in replacing existing processes with new, more productive and environmental correct manufacturing
processes. The first example will present hard turning versus grinding, respectively how to obtain a grinding quality surface at a turning price. The second example will emphasis on replacing loose abrasive processes like lapping and polishing with bonded abrasive processes, respectively grinding with lapping kinematics and ELID lapping and polishing.

In the conclusion of the seminar some new research directions in the area of precision manufacturing processes will be presented.

All Microelectronics and ISE students are expected to attend. Interested persons are welcome.

April 28, 2004: 'Principles of Forensic Geotechnical Engineering' special lecture to be conducted by Dr. V. V. Rao, Consulting Engineering, Nagadi Consultants Pvt. Ltd,, India. The lecture will be held at 9:00 a.m. in Room N-240, South Academic Building
