Workshop focuses on Sustainable Land Management, National Capacity Self-Assessment

The Global Environment Facility (GEF), the United Nations Development Program (UNDP)/SLM Portfolio Project for Least Developed Countries (LDCs)/Small Island Developing States (SIDS), the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)/National Capacity Self-Assessment program and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) are organizing a regional workshop onSustainable Land Management (SLM) and National Capacity Self-Assessment (NCSA) on 20-23 November 2006 at the AIT Conference Center.

The workshop will include participants from Asian countries that are proposing, preparing and implementing GEF Sustainable Land Management projects in Asia and the Pacific, as well as international experts and researchers.

The workshop aims to review the project development, launch and implementation issues and also to take stock of new opportunities, including new technologies and new sources of environmental finance focusing on the areas of SLM mainstreaming, National Action Plan (NAP) development, NAP financing, technological and organizational innovations ready for adoption, new mechanisms for SLM financing and SLM project inception and launch processes/issues among others.
