Abstract: In the recent years, there has been a spate of natural disasters, having serious repercussions on the livelihoods of people, especially in the developing world. Economic development, population growth and rapid urbanization are driving the rising trend in disaster losses. The impact of disasters will continue to rise with climate change exacerbating such trends. Many developing countries lack the tools, expertise, and instruments to factor the potential impacts of adverse natural events in their investment decisions. This webinar intends to introduce technologies and tools for disaster risk management related to climate change in order to build the capacities of developing nations to build resilience against disasters. This 90 minute long webinar will provide an overview of natural disasters and introduce technologies and tools for disaster risk assessment and reduction. Emphasis will be on creating enabling environment for disaster risk management. There will be plenty of time, through two Q/A sessions, for participants to interact with the experts.
