4-6 February 2008: International Symposium on Urban Energy and Carbon Management: Challenges for Science and Policy and International Workshop on Urban Energy and Carbon Modeling

An International Symposium on Urban Energy and Carbon Management: Challenges for Science and Policy and International Workshop on Urban Energy and Carbon Modeling will be held on 4-6 February 2008 at the AIT Center, Asian Institute of Technology, Pathumthani, Thailand

The event is organized by the Global Carbon Project (GCP), Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) and the National Institute for Environmental Studies (NIES), Japan.

15 January 2008: Japanese class for beginners

The AIT Language Center will organize a Japanese class for beginners.

Class schedule: starts on 15th of January and finishes before the mid-term exams in March. Classes are every Tuesday and Thursday from 6:00 pm to 7:30 pm.

Class size: maximum 20 students, minimum 10 students

Tuition fee: 1500 Baht for the whole course of 19.5 hours.

4 January 2008: “Challenge of Climate Change: How to deal with it” Talk by Dr. Lohani

Dr. Bindu Lohani, distinguished AIT alumnus and former faculty will be visiting AIT on Friday, 4 January 2008 during which he has kindly offered to deliver a talk on "Challenge of Climate Change: How to deal with it" to members of the AIT community. The talk will take place at the Milton E. Bender Jr. Auditorium from 10:00-11:30 a.m.

On a most recent development, Dr. Lohani, who currently serves as the ADB Vice President for Finance and Administration, was conferred an honorary doctorate degree by Griffith University, Australia on 14 December 2007. The honorary doctorate degree which was conferred on Dr. Lohani, on the occasion of the University's graduation ceremony, recognizes his work and contribution in the areas of sustainable development, environmental issues and poverty as well as instrumental role in breaking new ground in the incorporation of environmental and social considerations in ADB's lending and development activities.

10-14 December: Capacity Strengthening on Hazardous Chemicals Management

The regional workshop on hazardous chemicals management, organized by AIT, the Foundation for Scientific and Industrial Research of Norway (SINTEF) and the Pollution Control Department of Thailand, will be held at the AIT Conference Center during December 10-14, 2007. This regional workshop is part of the project “Capacity Strengthening on Hazardous Chemicals Management”, sponsored by the Norwegian government and being undertaken jointly by AIT and SINTEF. The workshop goals is to contribute to the reduction and eradication of health and environmental risks hosted by improper hazardous chemicals management, including awareness raising and capacity strengthening.
