Dr. Rung Kaewdang launches 'Learning from Monkeys' (Khruu Somporn Kon Son Ling)

Dr. Rung Kaewdang, one of Thailand's most active and dedicated educators and currently serving as Secretary-General of the Office of the National Education Commission (ONEC) and an AIT Trustee, recently launched his new book entitled 'Learning from Monkeys' (Khruu Somporn Kon Son Ling).

Dr. Rung was motivated to write this book after seeing Khruu Somporn apply the principles of pedagogy in training monkeys and transforming them into quality agricultural workers.

Mr. Phanom Slisatkorn (M.Eng., Computer Science)

Mr. Phanom from Thailand obtained his B.Eng. in Electronics Engineering from King Mongkut's Institute of Technology, Ladkrabang, Thailand, in 1997. He worked as an engineer at Asia Wireless Communications, Thailand, prior to joining AIT.

APPOINTMENT OF PROF. THANH AS INTERIM AITCV DIRECTOR

Prof. Thanh

Professor Nguyen Cong Thanh was appointed Interim Director of the Asian Institute of Technology Center in Vietnam (AITCV), effective 15 December until 30 June 2001.

He will assume the interim of Dr. Jari Backman, whose secondment by the Government of Finland terminated at the end of this year.

H. E. Abdurrahman Wahid, President of the Republic of Indonesia

At the 90th graduation ceremony on 15 December, AIT
conferred the Honorary Degree of
Doctor of Philosophy on H.E. Abdurrahman Wahid, President of
the Republic of Indonesia, and awarded degrees to 208 graduates from
20 countries in Asia and other regions.

During the term break from 12 - 22 December, the Library will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Sunday. During this period, the night shift staff will carry out year-end processes, such as Shelf Re-arrangement, Shelf Rectification, Collation of Journal Issues for Binding, etc.

On 30 November - 4 December, a JICA mission composed of Prof. Mari Osawa (second from left) of the Institute of Social Science, University of Tokyo, Japan, and Mrs. Harumi Okawa (left), Deputy Director, Global Issues Division, Planning and Evaluation Department, JICA, Japan, visited AIT to study the situation on Gender Mainstreaming at the Institute, in connection with JICA's cooperation programs in the field of gender and higher education.
