APPOINTMENT OF PROF. THANH AS INTERIM AITCV DIRECTOR

Professor Nguyen Cong Thanh was appointed Interim Director of the Asian Institute of Technology Center in Vietnam (AITCV), effective 15 December until 30 June 2001.
He will assume the interim of Dr. Jari Backman, whose secondment by the Government of Finland terminated at the end of this year.
During this period, Professor Thanh will direct the operations of AITCV and supervise and guide its staff.
Professor Thanh, Adviser to the AIT President, is a full time Visiting Professor in the Urban Environrnental Engineering and Management (UEEM) Program, School of Environment, Resources and Development, and head of the UEEM Environment and Resources Management Group.
He first joined AIT in 1973 as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Environmental Engineering and Technology. He became an Associate Professor in 1976 and Professor in 1982, and Chair of this Division (1976-1983). He served as Director of the Asia Division of the International Training Center for Water Resources Management (CEFIGRE) in Sophia Antipolis, France, from 1985 to 1991. From 1991 to 1998, Professor Thanh managed a professional consulting firm specializing in environmental issues and providing expertise in environmental sector review and planning, as well as project assessment and development.
