opens art exhibition
An exhibition of paintings in metal, silk and leather by Mongolian artist Byambarenchin Bayart-Od is currently being held at the AIT Center, under the joint sponsorship of AIT and the Embassy of Mongolia.
Japanese astronaut returns to earth with stories from space
Japanese astronaut Mamoru Mohri regaled a captive audience at AIT with stories from space when he visited the campus on 4 September. Dr. Mohri presented a lecture and a video documentary of his second space voyage.

Members reviewed and approved the draft report of the 8 August 2000 RPC Meeting, which will incorporate the comments and suggestions made at the meeting.
Dr. Milton E. Bender Jr.,
first AIT President, passes away
The AIT Community mourns the death of Dr. Milton E. Bender Jr., founding President of the Asian Institute of Technology. Dr. Bender passed away on 12 August 2000 in Sun City, Arizona, USA.
Dr. Bender was the third Dean of the SEATO Graduate School of Engineering, serving from May 1963 to December 1967. He played a key role in the transformation of the School into the Asian Institute of Technology and served as its first President from January 1968 to February 1973. He served a second term as President from January 1975 to January 1977.

Mongolian artist holds one-man exhibition at AIT
Mongolian artist Byambarenchin Bayart-Od will exhibit his paintings in metal, silk and leather at a special one-man show opening at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, 6 September, at the AIT Center.
Prof. Fujiwara awarded Third Class of the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand
Prof. O. Fujiwara, an associated faculty in the Urban Environmental Engineering and Management Program, SERD, and Chief Advisor of the JICA Thammasat University Project, has been awarded Third Class of the Most Noble Order of the Crown of Thailand by H.M. the King of Thailand.

The next meeting of the SCE Forum will be held on Thursday, 7 Sept in Room N 238, SCE Bldg. at 1:00 p.m.
THAI LANGUAGE CLASS FOR BEGINNERS
CLET will organize an additional Thai language class for beginners, focusing on speaking, listening and conversational skills.The class will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 4:00-5.30 p.m.; starting 11 Sept.
Education Officials from Finland visit AIT
Visiting AIT on 28 August were officials from Helsinki Polytechnic, Finland, namely, Prof. Heikki Saarelainen, Director of the Institute of Technology, and Prof. Markku Jantunen, Head of the Mechanical Engineering Department.
