A. Meetings of the Board of Trustees: Summary of the Most Important
Decisions

A summary of the most important decisions arrived at the 15 September 2000
Board meeting approved for release by the Acting Chairman of the Board
has been communicated to the AIT Community and posted on the On-line Bulletin.

French Support to AIT
On 19 October, AIT, the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs
and the French Agency for Development (AFD) signed an Agreement on French
support to the Institute for the period 2000-2001 valued at 912,600 Euros
(about THB 35,000,000).

As part of this Agreement, scholarships and expert support are provided
for the STAR program (SAT), the Energy Program (SERD), the Water Engineering
and Management Program (SCE) and the School of Management, through its
bilingual MBA program at AIT and its joint degree program with prestigious
French business schools.

Alumni Visiting AIT

Dr. Pichai Nimityongskul (left), Coordinator of Structural
Engineering and Construction Program/SCE welcomed his classmate
Abdul M. Hossain who visited AIT recently after 30 years. Mr. Hossain is now Director,
Engineering Review, Division of Bridges, Department of Transportation,
New York City, U.S.A. Mr. Hossain also called on Prof.

Final Doctoral Examination Schedule
Wednesday, 8 November from 1:00-3:00 p.m., at room 217, AFE Building,
Ms.Muanmai Apintanapong (PHD967190), a candidate for the Ph.D. degree of Tech.
Science in the Postharvest Food Process Engineering Field of Study
of the Processing Technology Program, will present her dissertation entitled,
'Effect of Chemical and Physical Parameters on 2-Acetyl-l-Pyrroline Production
by Acremonium nigricans and Its Preservation by Encapsulation'.

CONDOLENCES

The AIT Sri Lankan Association shares with the entire AIT community in
extending deepest sympathy to Dr. Jayasuriya, an AIT Alumnus (AFE '89 & 99), and Mrs.Nilmini
Jayasuriya (former Teacher of the AIT Child Center) upon the loss of their
young son (Bhanuka) recently under tragic circumstances.

All Social Security Members Need to Apply for Change of Hospitals

All Social Security Members are requested to contact and apply for change of hospital at the Human Resources
Office, since it is time to change your hospital. Please come to check
the updated SS participating hospitals (an attached file the updated list was also sent to all members
through email). You might notice that some hospitals are no longer under
SS coverage.

Gender & Development Studies

KNOWLEDGE DISSEMINATION: LIFE AND WORK OF GENDER AMBASSADORS IN INTEGRATED WATER RESOURCES MANAGEMENT, to be presented by Dr. Khin Ni Ni Thein, Executive Director of the Water Research and Training Centre (WRTC) for a new Burma, in The Netherlands, on Thursday, 9 November, 2000, 13:30-15:00, Room E108 The centre works for the Burmese people by promoting and improving their access to research, training and education in water and rural sector in Burma and abroad.

RTG-AIT initiative recognized by ASEM

The Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM) is an entity of regional cooperation to
strengthen collaborative relations and to promote common development and
prosperity between Asia and Europe. The current ASEM membership consists of
the 15 European Union member states, the European Commission along with
that of Brunei, China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, South
Korea, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Cremation Ceremony for ML Birabhongse Kasemsri

Their Majesties the King and Queen and the Royal family members will preside over the cremation of M L Birabhongse Kasemsri, His Majesty's Principal Private Secretary and former Chairman of the Board of AIT, on Saturday 25 November 2000 at 5.30 p.m. at Dhepsirindharavas Temple.
