SCE ALUMNI MAKE THEIR MARK

IR PAUL NUGRAHA (SEC' 79), new rector
of Indonesian university

Prof. Paul Nugraha, a 1979 Master graduate from AIT's Structural Engineering & Construction Program, has been appointed as Rector of the Petra Christian University (PCU) at Surabaya, Indonesia. Prof. Nugraha, PCU's eighth rector, will serve for four years (2001-2004). He holds a Bachelor degree from Petra in Civil Engineering (1976) and another degree in education administration from Texas A&M; University, USA (1991). Married with two children, he is the first PCU and AIT alumnus to serve in this position.

Previous to this appointment, Prof. Nugraha held various senior positions at PCU, serving as Head of its Civil Engineering Department (1985-1989), Vice Rector for Administration and Finance (1992-1993), Vice Rector for Academic Affairs (1993-1997), and Vice Rector for Development and Cooperation (1998-2001). He was also a senior lecturer at PCU's Master Program in Construction Management, which currently has a joint degree program with AIT's School of Civil Engineering. This Program recently received recognition at the highest level from the National Accreditation Board of Indonesia.

Petra's long term association with AIT dates back to 1970 when PCU first sent its young lecturers for further study at AIT. More than 40 PCU faculty members are AIT alumni.

PROF. SIRIPONG MALASRI (SEC '77), Dean of Engineering of US university

Prof. Siripong (Pong) Malasri, a 1977 Master graduate of Structural Engineering and Construction, is the Dean of Engineering of the Christian Brothers University (CBU) in Tennessee, USA. Prof. Siripong obtained his Ph.D. from Texas A&M; University, USA, in 1981. He held the rank of Assistant Professor at the University of Miami for six years, moving to Memphis, Tennessee, in 1988. At CBU, Prof. Malasri served as Chair for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (1991-1999). He has been CBU's Dean of Engineering since June 1999.
