News from GMSARN: 44 GMS participants complete their training in QUALITY FUNCTION DEPLOYMENT

Forty-four participants representing various institutions and businesses in the Greater Mekong Subregion successfully completed their training in QUALITY FUNCTION DEPLOYMENT (QFD) at a recently concluded workshop that examined in depth the importance of QFD in translating customer requirements into functional and quality characteristics. Special attention was given to the needs of small and medium size business enterprises in the GMS. Also discussed were technology applications suitable to the production of products and/or services desired by the market.

The QFD workshop was held on 5-13 March at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok. It was organized by the Greater Mekong Subregion Academic and Research Network (GMSARN), which is based at AIT, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) and the GMS Business Forum. The cooperating agencies were the Electrical and Electronics Institute of Thailand and the Japanese Chamber of Commerce in Bangkok. Funding was provided by the Government of Japan.

ESCAP officials from the International Trade and Industry Division, namely Dr. Nibhon Debavalya, Director, and Dr. B. P. Dhungana, Chief of the Industry Section, presided over the certificate presentation ceremony on 13 March.
