Handover Ceremony of new AITAA President
Mr. Chainarong Na Lamphun was inducted as the new President of the AIT Alumni Association President, succeeding Mr. Surendra Shrestha at a special ceremony held at the AIT Conference Center on 30 March 2002.

Phien, Dean, School of Advanced Technologies; Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai, Dean, School of Civil Engineering; Prof. Chongrak Polprasert, Dean, School of Environment, Resources and Development; Prof. Himangshu Paul, Dean, School of Management along with other senior alumnus attended the ceremony-cum-reception.
In his address President Armand thanked the outgoing AITAA President and his team for their commitment and exemplary service provided to the alumni body over the past six years from 1996 to 2002 during which a variety of joint initiatives have been undertaken with the administration. Under his leadership, Mr. Surendra Shrestha (above right) successfully organized annual Governing Board Meetings of the AIT Alumni Association in Pakistan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, India and Nepal. Five additional national chapters in Bhutan, Cambodia, Canada-Vancouver, Central Asia, Lao PDR and Mongolia were also established. President Armand congratulated Mr. Chainarong Na Lamphun and his new team on their appointment and added that he was looking forward to working with them in further strengthening the existing partnership between the Institute and its alumni. Mr. Chainarong has served in several positions in the AITAA, with the last two as Secretary-General from 2000-2002, and as Vice-President (Thailand Chapter) from 1996-1998. He is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Index International Group Co., Ltd., Managing Director of Lanna Engineering Consultants Co. Ltd., and Vice-President of Highway City Co., Ltd.
A new initiative undertaken by the current administration is the establishment of an Alumni Relations Panel of the Board of Trustees which will be holding its first meeting on 23 April 2002. The Alumni Relations Panel provides a direct link between the Alumni body and the Board and is aimed at strengthening the existing partnership between the Institute and its alumni.
