AIT Board of Trustees Held Meeting

The Meeting of AIT Board of Trustees was held on 25 April 2002 at the AIT Conference Center. The meeting was presided over by H.E. Mr. Anand Panyarachun, Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

A warm welcome was extended to the participants, and especially to the new trustee- designate H.E. Mr. Atsushi Tokunoya, Ambassador of Japan, and to invitee H. E. Mr. Pok Than, Secretary of State, Ministry of Education, Cambodia and Chairman of the Board, Institute of Technology of Cambodia (ITC).

The Board received the report of the Executive Committee, based on the proceedings of meetings held on 29 January 2002, and 21 March 2002. It was presented by Chairman of the Executive Committee, Mr. Viroj Phutrakul.

The Board Faculty Relations Committee, Staff Relations Committee, Student Relations Committee and Alumni Relations Panel, through the designated trustees, reported issues of concern which ensued from the deliberations of respective groups, including among others, faculty and alumni representations on the Board, staff involvement in the formulation of personnel policy, support on teaching for the benefit of students, and improvement of communication channels. The Board endorsed the nomination of Dr. Jingjai Hanchanlash, Executive Vice President, Loxley Public Company Limited, Thailand, as a member of the Corporate Relations Panel, the mandate of which should be expanded in order to include foundations and government agencies in addition to corporations.

The Board approved the proposed amendments of the Bye-Laws and, at the same time, directed the Executive Committee to make a comprehensive review, taking into account comments and observations made by members, and to report at the next Board meeting. The Board endorsed the proposal to establish cooperation with ITC in Cambodia to improve its curriculum and bring the level of education to international standards. The administration was directed to pursue further dialogue and cooperation, and report progress to the Board.

The Board received the administration' s report covering updated facts and figures, implementation of AIT strategic programs, personnel policy development, progress of land lease negotiation, and clarification of AIT' s legal status.
