Welcome Faculty

The School of Advanced Technologies is pleased to welcome the following Visiting Faculty who join the Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE) Program in May 2002 term:

Prof. Hugo Pastijn, a Visiting Professor who will teach the course AT03.01 - Deterministic Decision Models I for both AIT-Bangkok and AITV-Hanoi campuses. Prof. Pastijn can be contacted at room 210, Chalerm Prakiat Building, and telephone extension no. 5678. After his services as visiting faculty at AIT during 1993-1997 (ISE Program Coordinator in 1994-96), and as short-term visiting faculty every year since then, he is currently Chair Professor and Head of Applied Mathematics Department, at Royal Military Academy, Belgium.

Prof. Kripa Shanker, a Visiting Professor who will teach the course AT03.02 - Stochastic Decision Models I for both AIT-Bangkok and AITV-Hanoi campuses. Prof. Shanker can be contacted at room 208, Chalerm Prakiat Building, and telephone extension no. 5680. Prof. Shanker is also not new to us, he served AIT as fixed term faculty during 1982-1984 (Chairman of IE&M; Division in Jan-Jul 1984), and 1998-2000, and as short-term faculty in 1980, 1981, 1987, and 1990 as well. Currently he is Professor and Head of Industrial and Management Engineering Department, and Deputy Director of IIT Kanpur, India.

The School of Environment, Resources and Development cordially welcome the new faculty members, starting May 2002 Term as follows:

Dr. Subhes Chandra Bhattacharyya, a Visiting Associate Professor in the Energy Economics and Planning Field of Study, the Energy (E) Program, obtained M.Eng. from AIT, DEA and Ph.D in Applied Economics from University Pierre Mendes, Grenoble, France. He worked for over three years as an Economist with National Economic Research Associates Inc., India from 1997 to 2001. He was involved with NERA's activities of providing consulting services on a board range of regulatory and economic issues to the Regulatory Commissions in the states of Orissa and Haryana. He has worked as associate professor at Madras School of Economics and a design engineer at Development Consultants Ltd., Calcutta. He has more than ten years of experience in the power and energy industry. He specializes in regulatory matters (such as licensing, tariff determination, revenue requirement analysis), analysis of energy demand and supply, energy and environmental economics, energy planning, energy modeling and power system design. Before joining AIT, he was a consultant at Pricewaterhouse Coopers Private Ltd. in Orissa, India. He can be contacted at room ET231, Energy building II, tel. 6559 and e-mail:

Dr. Hidehiko Kanegae., a Visiting Assistant Professor in the Urban Environmental Management Field of Study, the Urban Environmental Engineering and Management (UEEM) Program, seconded by the Government of Japan. He received B.Eng., M.Eng. and D.Eng. in Social Engineering from Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. He is an Assistant Professor (Planning Science and Planning Theory) at the Department of Social Engineering, the Graduate School of Decision Science and Technology, Tokyo Institute of Technology, Japan. Dr. Hiroyasu Sato. an Associate Professor in the three Fields of Study i.e. Water & Wastewater Engineering, Environmental Technology & Management, and Environmental Toxicology, Technology & Management; the Urban Environmental Engineering and Management (UEEM) Program, seconded by the Government of Japan

Dr. Sato obtained Bachelor and Master's degrees in Civil Engineering and D.Eng. in Environmental Engineering from Tokyo University, Japan in 1989, 1991, 1993 respectively. Prior to joining AIT, Dr. Sato was an Associate Professor at the Department of Environmental Studies, the Graduate School of Frontier Sciences, University of Tokyo, Japan. His main areas of research include biological wastewater treatment processes, especially nutrient removal activated sludge processes, and their microbial aspects such as metabolisms and microbial population structures, conversion of organic pollutants in solid and liquid wastes into biodegradable plastics by using activated sludge.
