Visiting AIT

Wednesday, November 20, 2002: At 2.50 p.m. H.E. Maneul Lee, Deputy Minister of Environment, Republic of Korea visited AIT and was accompanied by Mr. Kyu-Seok Baek, General Director of International Affairs, Mr. Min-Ho Lee, Deputy Director of International Affairs and Ms. Hyun-Sook Sung, Interpreter.

During the visit, they met Prof. Jean-Louis Armand, President of AIT; Prof. Mario T. Tabucannon, Provost; Prof. Gothom Arya, Registrar; Prof. Chongrak Polprasert, Dean SERD; Prof. Gajendra Singh, Dean, AIT Extension and Dr. Seung Hwan Lee, Urban Environmental Engineering and Management Program/SERD. At 4:00 p.m., they also had a meeting with Korean faculty in AIT.

The purpose of the visit is to have a familiarization of AIT, to disseminate information about the Korean Ministry of Environment and
to survey possible international collaborations with AIT in the field of environment.

At the reception area Prof. Jean Louis Armand, AIT President briefs Mr. Min Ho Lee and H.E. Maneul Lee through a showcase miniature model of AIT.

Thursday November 21, 2002: At 10:00 a.m., Mr. Masahiro Sato, Director of Planning & Development, Keihin Electric Express Railway Co., Ltd. and Dr. Shingo Ohmori, Executive Director, Communications Research Laboratory (CRL) Japan visited AIT. During their visit they met with AIT President Jean-Louis Armand, Provost Mario T. Tabucanon, Prof. Gothom Arya, Registrar, Prof H. N. Phien, Dean SAT, and Dr. K. Ahmed, TC Program Coordinator.

Friday, November 22, 2002: At 2:30 p.m., the delegation from the Asian Development Bank (ADB) visited AIT. The delegation was composed of Mr. Osamu Tsukahara, Executive director for Japan, ADB; Mr. Megumi Araki, JSF & JSP Coordinator, Office of Cofinancing Operations, ADB and Ms. Teresa N. Carreon, Executive Assistant, ADB.

The visit of the delegation is to hold consultative meeting on ADB-Japan Scholarship Program (ADB-JSP) and covered agenda on budget for 2003; other scholarship programs available at AIT; Japan-ADB Scholarship Alumni Association; the promotion of ADB-JSP and selection of scholars, distribution of scholarships by nationality, process of selection and ranking of scholars.

At 5:30 p.m., a group of ADB-JSP scholars at AIT, Thammasat and ADB-JSP alumni held a dinner gathering.

ADB Scholarships at AIT

From May 1989 to September 2002, ADB-JSP has provided a total of 196 master's scholarships to AIT students who are nationals of ADB's DMC's (Developing Member Countries). Out of the 196 ADB-JSP scholars, 168 have since completed their studies and graduated while 26 are still continuing students as of September 2002 term.
