ASIA-LINK PROGRAMME - SECOND DEADLINE GRANT TO AIT SERD-EEM
A joint proposal of the Technical University of Hamburg, Hamburg, Germany as main applicant and the University of Padova (Italy), University Putra Malaysia, Serdang (Malaysia) and the Asian Institute of Technology has been recommended for financing by the European Commission.
The objective of this project entitled 'Development of teaching and training modules for higher education in the waste management sector' is to establish a cooperation on curricula development and performance in the field of environmental education for higher education institutions.
Participants in Europe are Professor Rainer Stegrnann of the Technical University of Hamburg-Harburg's Department of Waste Padova's IMAGE Department (Italy) both are renowned researchers in the field of landfill management. Asian partners are Professor Hassan of University Putra Malaysia's Department of Environmental Sciences and Prof. Chettiyappan Visvanathan of the Asian Institute of Technology's Environmental, Engineering and Management Program.
Sophisticated teaching modules shall combine presence, distant and multimedia learning considering the different cultural and economical background. The waste management sector was selected as a model case due to its multi-facetted issues and since it is very often overlooked during economic development.
The main activities within the 3-year-project are the joint elaboration of course materials on modular basis ( written, interactive) and their application in courses for students of e.g. environmental, process and civil engineering. Mutual teaching (e.g. exercises with participants from Asia and Europe) and e-learning will be included. An exchange program, joint workshops and training courses will improve direct cooperation.
