Signing of the NORAD-AIT Agreement: 2003-2005

An agreement between the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) was signed on May 14, 2003. Under this agreement, the Government of Norway will provide support in an amount of not exceeding NOK 15,000,000 to AIT during 2003-2005. The objective is to 'strengthen the capability of institutions in the developing countries in Asia to address issues related to poverty alleviation, environmentally sustainable natural resources management and gender responsive development through higher education and training of relevant personnel.

May 19 - June 13, 2003: The Urban Management Centre (UMC) / Urban Environmental Management (UEM) Field of Study-AIT together with UN-ESCAP and the University of Wales-Cardiff are conducting the Second Training Course on 'Integrating Environmental Concerns Into Economic Decisions Making'.

This internet-based training course using the Virtual Policy Studio (VPS) tool aims:

to provide participants with an introduction and a basic understanding of the concepts and issues related to Integrating Environmental Concerns into Economic decision making;
to increase the understanding of the necessity and the difficulties in co-ordination among different agencies and stakeholders; 
to share experiences among participants in dealing with these issues related to integrating environmental concerns into economic decision-making.

AIT Honored by H.M. King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden

At a private ceremony held at the Swedish Ambassador's residence on April 29, 2003, Professor Jean-Louis Armand, President of AIT, was awarded by H.E. Swedish Ambassador Jan Axel Nordlander , upon Royal Command, the order of Commander of the Royal Order of the Polar Star, 'in recognition of his active support of the broadening of cooperation with Sweden in science and technology and for promoting transparency and accountability with regard to the administration and finances of the Asian Institute of Technology, thereby also safeguarding Sweden's contributions and highlighting Sweden's role as a donor country.

UNEP and AIT host the Crown Prince of Nepal, PARAS BIR BIKRAM SHAH DEV visit

H.E. Mr. Anand Panyarachun, Chairman of AIT Board of Trustees, is seen welcoming HRH Paras Bir Bikram Shah Dev, The Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Nepal, in the presence of Prof. Jean-Louis Armand, AIT President; H.E. Mr. Janak Bahadur Singh, Nepalese Ambassador to Thailand; and H.E. Dr. Krasae Chanawongse, Advisor to Thai Prime Minister, at a dinner hosted by Chairman of AIT Board of Trustees on May 5.
