Brian Ward passed away at 72
The AIT community joins Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) in mourning the loss of Col. Brian Ward, who passed away on June 12, 2004 in the UK at the age of 72. Col. Ward worked for AIT as founding director of ADPC from 1985 until his retirement in 1992. PSSU now works out of the office he formerly occupied during those years. Ward was recovering from heart surgery when he suffered kidney failure. He is survived by his elder brother, Richard.
Col. Brian Ward was a man of great wisdom and insight, dedicated to the cause of disaster risk reduction. Brian had a deep love for the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center, which he founded and nurtured up until his death, and was an inspirational mentor to a generation of disaster management practitioners. In 2001, in recognition of his outstanding personal contribution to disaster reduction, Col. Brian Ward was awarded the United Nations Sasakawa Certificate of Distinction.
He will be greatly missed by the ADPC staff and those whose lives he's touched. ADPC plans to hold a farewell ceremony for Col. Ward. The exact date will be announced soon. All who wish to pay their respects are welcome. A condolence book is available at the lobby of the Outreach Building, for two weeks. Those who wish to come and sign may do so. Condolences may also be sent online at: http://www.adpc.net/bward/postmessage.php
