SOM Student Wins Award for Doctoral Dissertation

SOM doctoral student Ravipa Larpsiri (right) has won the prize for first runner-up in the American Marketing Association, Sales Special Interest Group (AMA SALESSIG) national Ph.D. dissertation competition. Ms. Ravipa, who is a faculty member in the Department of Marketing at Sripatum University in Bangkok, will be recognized at the AMA Summer Marketing Educators' Conference, Boston, MA, USA, in August 6-9, 2004, one of the most prestigious academic conferences in the field of marketing. Ms. Ravipa's dissertation was entitled Consumer Response to Sales Force Automation in the Insurance Industry. Her accomplishment demonstrates that Thai marketing scholars and marketing education in Thailand can be highly competitive internationally. Her education was all completed in Thailand - her PhD is from SOM, her MBA from National Institute of Development Administration (NIDA), and her BS from Kasetsart University.

Khun Ravipa has been able to complete her PhD work to this very high standard in three years, and will graduate in August 2004. During her three years as a PhD student, Ms Ravipa has published an article (with her advisor, Dr. Mark Speece) in the British journal Marketing Intelligence & Planning on Technology Integration: Perceptions of Sales Force Automation in Thailand's Life Assurance Industry; co-authored four papers published in proceedings of major conferences; co-presented one other paper at an international conference; served as an Organizing Committee Member for the Eighth International Conference on Marketing and Development, Bangkok, Thailand (January 2003); and with colleagues from SOM (S. Rotchanakitumnuai, R. Srijumpa, R. Rajatanavin, V. Malai, P. Silayoi, S. Chaisrakeo, and M. Speece) taken part in a half-hour television discussion on Technology Integration for Competitive Marketing for the Nation Multimedia Channel.
