RoKS, IDRC research grants award
to Resurreccion, Sajor
The Research on Knowledge Systems (RoKS) initiative of the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) in partnership with the Rockefeller Foundation recently awarded Dr. Bernadette Resurreccion (left), GDS Coordinator and Dr. Edsel Sajor (below right), Assistant Prof., UEM, SERD for their research proposal on 'Understanding Policy Processes in Biotechnology and Biosafety Measures in Thailand and China.'
RoKS is an exploratory effort launched by IDRC in June 2001. Its objectives are to explore, from a developing-country standpoint, the ways in which knowledge is produced, communicated, and applied to development problems, and to investigate the policy and institutional frameworks that govern this process.
RoKS focuses on policy issues in the field of science, research, and knowledge, helping to cast light on cross-cutting issues in the areas of environment and natural resource management, information and communication technologies for development, and social and economic equity.
Out of 140 teams who sent their proposal this year, Dr. Resurreccion and Dr. Sajor's proposal was granted the award. The research projects will commence in the succeeding months and RoKS, IDRC along with Rockefeller will be hosting a joint workshop bringing together the awardees to discuss their individual projects and to situate their work in a global context in February 2005.
