Visiting AIT
On 4 October 2004 a delegation from the University of Mining and Geology, Hanoi, Vietnam visited AIT. The delegation consisted of Dr. Thai Hong
Phuong, Dean of Mining Faculty and 10 officials.
During the visit they met with Dr. Jonathan Shaw (above, second from left), Program Director, Management of Education Development, AIT Extension; Mr. Benjamin A. Gargabite (above, third from left), Director of Admissions & Scholarships; Dr. Pham Huy Giao, Senior Research Engineer, SCE; Mr. Tenzin Rabgyal and Ms. Hnin Aye Lwin, Program Officers, Office of the President at Room 210.
The visit focused on knowing more about AIT and to seek opportunities for future partnerships. The delegation showed their keen interest to collaborate
with AIT in exploring the possibility of studying and exchanging experiences in training methods of power and mechanics field.
The delegation also visited the Energy Park, Geotechnical Lab, SCE Lab and Environmental Engineering Lab. The AIT Vietnamese faculty members and Vietnamese doctoral students assisted the delegation during their laboratory visits.
On 6 October 2004, a high level delegation from the University College of Engineering & Technology Malaysia-KUKTEM, led by the Rector, Prof. Dato' Dr. Abu Azam Md Yassin and accompanied by Prof. Dr. Prof. Dr. Badhrulhisham Abdul Aziz, Dean, Faculty of Chemical & Natural Resources Engineering of KUKTEM, Mr. Fadhil Mat Yahaya, Dean, Faculty of Civil & Environmental Engineering of KUKTEM, Mr. Richard Azlan Abas of Azlan & Co., and Mr. Kee Book Hee (EE'82), the President of AITAA-Malaysia Chapter, visited AIT.

During their visit they met with Prof. Jean-Louis Armand, AIT President; Prof. Mario T. Tabucanon, Provost; Prof. Chongrak Polprasert, Dean SERD and Acting Dean SCE; Dr. Nazrul Islam, Acting Dean SOM; Mr. Ng Eng Wan, Chief Financial Officer; Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Director of Promotion Activities; and Mr. Kyaw Soe Hlaing, Alumni Relations Officer.
Scene at the meeting
The purpose of the visit was to explore and discuss collaboration between AIT and KUKTEM. The possibility of sending qualified students/young staff members of KUKTEM to AIT for Master's and Doctoral Degree Programs especially in SAT and SCE was discussed and a package will be prepared by AIT to this effect. The possibility of joint teaching and faculty exchange were also discussed. KUKTEM will also follow up to recruit AIT doctoral graduates as their faculty members. It was suggested that further discussions to be placed with a view to implementing plan of action by 2005. It was also suggested that AIT make a promotion visit to KUKTEM during the latter part of this year.
They also visited the schools and laboratories, and met faculty from SAT, SCE and SERD.
