GMSARN Board and Council of Advisers holds 8th Joint Meeting

The Greater Mekong Sub Region Academic and Research Network held on 3 June
2005 its 8th joint meeting of the Board and Council of Advisors. The event held
in Siem Reap - home of Angkor Wat and other ancient temples - was witness to
the 8th Joint Meeting of the GMSARN Board and Council of Advisers.

The semi-annual meeting event were co-hosted by the Institute of Technology
of Cambodia (ITC) and the Royal University of Phnom Penh (RUPP) and attended
by 25 participants that includes heads and representatives of GMSARN member
institutions, members of the GMSARN Council of Advisors as well as representatives
from various organizations whose aim is geared towards the development of the
Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS).

During the meeting, Prof. Mario Tabucanon, Acting President of the Asian Institute
of Technology, turned over the GMSARN Chairship to ITC. To mark the turnover,
the GMSARN flag was raised by Prof. Tabucanon for the first time in history
and was then passed to Dr. Phoeurng Sackona (below left), Director of ITC. His
Excellency Prof. Pit Chamnan, State Secretary of the Ministry of Education,
Youth and Sports in Cambodia, and a former member of the GMSARN Board, witnessed
the turnover.

In appreciation to his valuable contribution and dedication to duty, the GMSARN
members acknowledged and recognized Prof. Mario Tabucanon with a plaque of appreciation.
Prof. M. T. Tabucanon served as GMSARN Director from 2001 - 2004, and as Chair
of the GMSARN Board from 20 November 2004 to 3 June 2005.
