AIT Community School Celebrates Mother's Day
The new Academic Session in the AIT Community School (AITCS) commenced on 8 August 2005 amidst much anticipation and enthusiasm. Both staff and students were looking forward to a new beginning towards growth and learning.
The excitement reached fever pitch when the plans for Mother's Day celebrations were unveiled. All over the Kingdom the date 12 August is observed and celebrated as Mother's Day - the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit of Thailand. It is only right and proper that the AITCS honor Her Majesty as well as our own mother's on this day.
As 12 August falls on a holiday, the AITCS decided to celebrate the Mother's Day on 11 August 2005. Programs were drawn up after lengthy discussions and invitations were sent out. The Parents responded as enthusiastically and eagerly afterwards.
The day started off when Prof. Said Irandoust, AIT President, was welcomed by Dr. R. K. Padam, Principal, AITCS and a host of dignitaries from the AIT Community.
The ceremony was started when the Thai students of AITCS sang the Thai National Anthem and the Royal Anthem. The singing was followed by a small ceremony to honor Her Majesty the Queen when Prof. Irandoust, Dr. Padam, Khun Chalermphon and two students humbly offered symbolic flowers to the portrait of Her Majesty which was displayed on a special altar.
After which, Dr. Padam gave a welcome address and an opening remarks. To honor some Model Mothers of the AITCS Alumni, bouquets of roses were presented to 11 mothers of outstanding AITCS Alumni, and to Mrs. Irandoust. Dr. Anila Sadananda, one of the model mothers who was felicitated, gave a speech.
Prof. Said Irandoust was then requested to deliver a speech. His heartfelt message on mothers and motherhood, noted why everybody needs to honor and revere his mother, leaving a deep impact on the minds of AITCS students. As soon as he ended his message and went on a whirlwind tour of the School, AITCS students rushed to buy roses to present to their loving mothers!
Later, the AITCS students planted 'Family Trees' with their parents at the Tree Plantation site. Some trees were planted along the road outside AITCS, while some were planted close to the play field. It was during this exciting activity that it started drizzling - a good sign if ever there was one!
