Pakistan HEC Chairman acknowledges
and enlists AIT
H.E. Professor Dr. Atta-ur Rahman, Pakistan's Higher Education Commission (HEC) chairman and Federal Minister of Science and Technology acknowledges and enlists the academic and technological support of AIT in Pakistan's recovery from the massive earthquake disaster. H.E. Rahman also ensured his full support for establishment of an AIT Centre in Pakistan to Prof. Said Irandoust, AIT President and Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Director of Promotions during their official visit to Islamabad on 10 November 2005.
The Pakistan Daily online news story 'Earthquake victims will not be left alone' published 11 Nov 2005, quotes Prof. Rahman as stating, 'The efforts being made by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand to facilitate Pakistani institutions of higher learning in different advanced technological areas is laudable.'
Prof. Rahman went on to explain that AIT could assist Pakistani universities by bringing them up to par with international institutions. Industrial design, industrial biotechnology, telecommunications, material sciences and the application of information technology were, he said, the fields which required attention and the AIT could provide a bridge to developing these areas.
