ARRPET conducts Annual Review Workshop

The Asian Regional Research Program on Environmental Technology (ARRPET) Phase II (Phase II) recently conducted its Annual Review Workshop from 5 to 7 December 2005 at the AIT Conference Center.

The workshop was attended by AIT Principal Investigators, representative from Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida), Swedish Resource Persons and over 50 researchers from China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam.

Mr. Yu Xiaogang, a doctoral student in Gender and Development Studies, SERD, AIT has been recognized by Scientific American in its December 2005 issue.

For the fourth year, Scientific American has recognized 50 people, teams and organizations whose recent accomplishments, whether in research, business or policymaking, demonstrate leadership in shaping both established and emerging technologies.

Tsunami Safeguards Overwhelmed by the devastation wrought by the December 2004 tsunami, coastal dwellers along the Andaman Sea and the Indian Ocean are now focusing attention on safeguards against such dangers. For example, the Bangkok Post (16 October 2005) reported that there has been a boom in construction of seawalls along the Andaman coast.
