'The Tsunami Disaster and its Prevention' Distance Lecture
On 15 March 2005, experts in Japan and at AIT made presentations, exchanged their views and perspectives on tsunami and the masses response to it at a distance lecture session called 'The Tsunami Disaster and its Prevention.
Former SU President Soni receives Reddy Award
Mr. Peeyush Soni (right), AIT Student Union (SU) Jan 2004 President was recently notified to receive the Reddy Award from the Indian Society of Agricultural Engineers (ISAE).
Mr. Soni will receive the prestigious award for his thesis titled, 'Effect of different mesh-sized cladding materials on a naturally ventilated greenhouse microclimate' at the 40th ISAE Convention to be held in New Delhi in February 2006.

AIT, ADPC signs MoU
The Asian Institute of Technology and the Asian Disaster Preparedness Center (ADPC) recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop and establish a dynamic long-term partnership of ongoing collaboration and cooperation to support the sustainable development of countries in the Asian region.

7 April 2005: ISE, SAT seminar on Nanomachining Bridges Precision Engineering and Nanotechnology will be conducted by Professor Ioan Marinescu, University of Toledo, USA. The event will be held at 1:30 p.m. in room 106, Chalerm Prakiat (ISE) Building.
ITB appoints AIT alumnus as Rector
Dr. Djoko Santoso (right), a GTE SCE alumnus was recently appointed to head the Institute of Technology Bandung (ITB). Prior to the position he was also elected to chair the ITB's Academic Senate in 2001.
Dr. Santoso received his first degree in Geology/Geophysics from ITB - Indonesia, the Post Graduate Diploma in Seismology from International Institute of Seismology and Earthquake Engineering Tokyo, Japan (1979). He received his Master of Science degree in Geotechnical and Transportation Engineering from AIT in 1982. He completed his Doctor of Engineering degree from ITB in 1990.
During his professional career he served as lecturer and part time consultant for some Indonesia and International Companies mainly in petroleum Exploration and engineering.
Tsunami expert Shuto to lecture at AIT
Professor Nobuo Shuto (right), a world renowned expert on tsunami will lecture 'Tsunamis: Their Coastal Effects and Defense Works' at the AIT Conference Center on Monday, 9 May 2005. In his lecture, Prof. Shuto will describe tsunamis and related disasters, share a tsunami numerical simulation and expound on tsunami defense works.
