Gen Dr. Boonsrang becomes Alumni Association's Mother Chapter president

On Friday, 6 January 2006, Mr. Chainarong Na Lamphun (fifth from left), AIT Alumni Association Mother Chapter outgoing president, handed the reins to Gen. Dr. Boonsrang Niumpradit (fourth from right), at the AIT Conference Center. Gen. Dr. Boonsrang, Deputy Supreme Commander, Royal Thai Armed Forces and an AIT alumnus, has been elected to hold the office until December 2007.

Gen. Dr. Boonsrang received his doctorate in structural engineering from AIT in 1978 and his master's of science in mechanical engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1972.

His patriotism and commitment to his country are reflected in his illustrious military career. From 1973 to 1986, he served the Royal Thai Military Academy in different capacities and then moved on to serving as Director of the Strategic Research Institute. He then served as Director of National Defense College.

In 2000-2001, he was appointed as Force Commander of the United Nations Transitional Administration in East Timor, commanding more than 8,000 peacekeepers from 36 countries. He spent 410 days in East Timor, which he calls the most memorable period of his life.
