Pakistani delegation's visit could lead to AIT center in Islamabad

Two representatives of the Pakistani government visited AIT at the end of January to discuss an AIT center in Islamabad that could focus on telecommunications, energy, environment and business management.

Dr. Syed Muhammad Junaid Zaidi (seated second from left) is rector and Mr. Tahir Naeem (seated left), an AIT School of Management alumnus, is director of planning and development for the Commission on Science and Technology for Sustainable Development in the South Institute of Information Technology. They visited AIT 30-31 January 2006, meeting with the president, vice presidents, deans and faculty members of various schools. They also visited the AIT Extension.

The visit stems from November 2005 discussions in Islamabad between AIT President Said Irandoust and H.E. Prof. Atta-ur-Rahman, Pakistan's federal minister of science and technology and chairman of the Higher Education Commission.

An AIT task force will prepare a business plan for the proposed Islamabad center by the end of March.
