AIT welcomes Maldives delegation

On 14 March 2006, Mr. Mohamed Fahmy Hassan (seated 2nd from left), director of the Department of Higher Education and Training, Ministry of Higher Education, Employment and Social Security, Maldives visited AIT to explore a partnership.
During the visit, Mr. Hassan was welcomed by Prof. Vilas Wuwongse, vice president for external relations and was accompanied by Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, head, External Relations and Communications Office.

In the meeting with the AIT administration, Mr. Hassan mentioned that his ministry has been actively exploring for opportunities to collaborate with well-known academic institutions all over the region. The ministry is offering loans for individuals to pursue their higher education abroad. Various institutions in Singapore have been considered as well for the same purpose.

Prof. Vilas welcomed the interest of Mr. Hassan and briefed him about the degrees and the fields of study offered at AIT. Mr. Hassan then informed Prof. Vilas that he would consider AIT and would collaborate with AIT in the near future in the form of a memorandum of understanding.

Mr. Hassan also met Dr. Jonathan Shaw, director of AIT Extension and Dr. Shailendra Sigdel, senior program specialist. Mr. Hassan was also interested to know about the various short-term training programs offered at AIT. During the visit, Mr. Hassan was also taken for a tour of AIT campus.

There are currently two students enrolled from the Maldives and a total of five alumni since 1996.
