Harvard award honors environmental partnerships

The Roy Family Award was established by the Environment and Natural Resources Program at the John F. Kennedy School of Government to recognize public-private partnerships that have attained exemplary achievements in the area of environmental protection and natural resources conservation. The award is given to specific projects that demonstrate leadership, innovation, strategic planning, community focus, sustainability, and could be replicated in other geographic or programmatic areas. The bi-annual award was given for the first time in 2003.

Awards are given to programs, projects or research that consist of a partnership defined as: two or more separate organizations from academic, civic, business, government or nonprofit groups working together collaboratively/jointly on a project or program that improves the quality of the environment.

Decision-making power must be shared. Programs cannot be hired by each other; i.e. an organization and its contractor would not be eligible.

Award recipients will be required to give a public talk at Harvard University at which they will receive the award.

Organizations can nominate themselves.

Categories are: Consensus Building, Environmental Awareness Promotion, Leadership and Adaptation of New Technology

Applications are due by 30 April 2006 and must include: Contact information for partners involved in the project; description of the project or program; and a statement addressing what problem the project addresses, how the partnership formed, current and potential beneficiaries of the project and how the project might be replicable.

Nominations should be sent to: Daniel Camós-Daurella, Environment and Natural Resources Program, Kennedy School of Government, 79 John F. Kennedy Street, Cambridge, MA 02138, U.S.A.
