Princess to preside over 24 May graduation

AIT President Prof. Said Irandoust announced this week that Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn will preside over a single graduation ceremony on Wednesday, 24 May 2006 .

The Princess is an honorary faculty member and alumna of AIT. She has kindly consented to preside over the forthcoming 105th AIT Graduation Ceremony and to confer degrees upon the graduating students. To conform to the Princess's schedule, the date of the ceremony has been moved one day ahead of its previously scheduled date.

HRH Princess Sirindhorn has long been associated with AIT. In 1984, she attended a two-month course at the Asian Regional Remote Sensing Training Center and became AIT's first royal alumna by earning her certificate of course completion. In 1989 as part of the institute's 30th anniversary celebration, AIT conferred the honorary degree of Doctor of Technology on Her Royal Highness.

The Princess has visited AIT's campus on several occasions: For the opening of the Agricultural and Food Engineering Building in 1988, the inauguration of the Computer Science Building in 1991 and the inauguration of the Chalerm Prakiat Building in 1996. Her last visit was in 2003, when she led students from Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy on a study visit.

This year marks the Sixtieth Anniversary Celebrations of His Majesty the King of Thailand's Accession to the Throne. AIT has been fortunate to receive royal patronage and support of His Majesty the King and members of the Royal Family over the years. The presence of the Princess at the graduation ceremony allows AIT to join the Thai nation in the celebrations to mark this auspicious occasion, AIT's president said.
