The event gave the chance for AIT students to meet officials from companies, discuss their research plans and explore employment opportunities. On-the-spot job interviews were also conducted in the afternoon. The event was highlighted with special corporate presentations to let the students learn more about the participating companies.
Here’s what a few company recruiters had to say about the fair and AIT:
Mr. Kosit Chunganuwad, organization development specialist, Mattel Bangkok Ltd. – “Our company, Mattel is the world manufacturer of toys and has been at School of Management, AIT, several times by recruiting the students to do joint projects. Today, we joined the Industry Fair because we found AIT is a grade-A university which attracts us and there are five or six AIT alumni working with the company.
“There is no limitation of nationalities of recruitment because our working environment is international and very diverse.
“We also provide research grants and internships for the students so that they can have work experience to be later applied for their future job. Our projects offered for the students are in various fields such as mechanics, graphics, and (information technology). We allow the students to choose which projects they are interested in and they can propose to our company. We need fresh innovated idea from these newly graduates such as graphics or mechanism of toy cars, which are our main products manufactured in Thailand’s branch. The projects can be their personal portfolio after the project is completed.
“One of AIT’s students had an internship with us, and our branch in Malaysia was impressed with his work, so he was approached to join the branch in Malaysia after the internship.”
Mr. Surawat Promyotin, test engineering manager, Maxim Integrated Products (Thailand) Col., Ltd. – “We are the world leader in analog and mixed signal integrated circuits. We make chips of every type of equipment in the world – almost every single notebook PC in the world, ICs in cell phones, digital cameras, even Thailand’s own satellite, Thaicom – have Maxim inside.
“We are here today to recruit electrical engineers, particularly in micro-electronics and telecommunications, and those who are skilled in circuit analysis and or design. We are offering jobs in test R&D. As we are a company from Silicon Valley, we offer unbelievable benefits for the staff and most high-tech jobs, especially in Thailand. If the students would like to apply their knowledge and become the best engineer in the world, come and work at Maxim and their future will be guaranteed.
“We have a headquarters in the U.S. and also have operations in Europe, Japan and India. In Thailand, we are growing from approximately 400 employees to 2,000 employees in less than two years. Therefore, we are offering almost unlimited opportunities, especially for those who are looking for management opportunity.
“The main objective today is to hire engineers to work full time, and we also are working on developing the internship program, and we expect to have collaboration with AIT faculty and opportunities in all directions.”
Mr. Ahmad Danu Dirya, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam recruiter, Schlumberger – “Schlumberger Company is the leading oilfield services provider. Through our well site operations and in our research and engineering facilities, we are working to develop products, services and solutions that optimize customer performance in safe and environmentally sound manners.
“This is the first time that the company joined the AIT Industry Fair. We came here last semester for a career talk to present the company and form the interview. Today, we are looking for field engineers which we recruit the students from all engineering fields.
“We also would like to recruit geologists, geophysicists, petroleum reservoir production engineer to be our petro-technical experts. Moreover, we would like to hire one person from Asia for our research and development center. He or she can be Thai, Myanmar, or Vietnamese.
“We also have a one or two-month internship program which is one of the tools for us to see the potential candidate. If the guys/ladies do well in the internship program, we usually offer them jobs after the program finishes.
“We are also filing the students’ application forms. The recruitment is not only for one month and we are recruiting many people not only for this year but for the next year also. If we see the potential with the student who will graduate next year, we can keep the file.”
AIT students also shared their feelings about the fair and their prospects for jobs:
Miss Surabhi Srivastava, International Business student at the School of Management – “I think it is a very good opportunity for students not just to learn about the participating companies but also gain the experience on job interviews and learn how to apply for the jobs. It is a very good exposure for students.
“I am hopeful for my job prospects and I am going to apply to a few companies that have available vacancies that suit to my qualifications. I would like to work in Thailand since I’ve been here for a while. Thailand is a safe country and I know people here already.”
Miss Fanny Landrea, Pulp and Paper Technology student, School of Environment, Resources and Development – “This year’s Industry Fair is better than last year since there are more companies participating and I feel more enthusiasm atmosphere.
“I am interested in applying for a job in The Siam Cement Group and at Advance Agro PCL. I gave my CV to them and just hope to get the job. I view the companies in Thailand (as being) more interesting to work with. Their working conditions are better than in my country, Indonesia. But if I can’t find a job here, I will go back to my country.”
Mr. Kritsada Japanya, Electric Power System Management student, School of Environment, Resources and Development – “I am impressed with the Industry Fair since the participating companies are very reputable. I expect to get a job, especially with either TEAM Consulting Engg and Mgmt Co. Ltd. and Advance Agro PCL, which are the companies that have energy business and which I will have the interviews with later today.
“I also found that this is the good opportunity to apply to several companies at one time. Studying at AIT gives me more chance to get a job rather than other places.”
Mr. Hamid, Design and Manufacturing Engineering doctoral student, School of Engineering and Technology – “It is good that AIT organizes this kind of event because companies need competent people from the university and this should be held for the students’ benefits.
“Representatives from companies can interact with the students who are graduating and the students will get the job and the companies will get suitable people for their industries.
“Today, I want to learn more about the companies in Thailand that present their profiles. It is helpful for a student like me not to travel around to reach these companies in one day. I got various information from various companies such as job opportunities and the nature of work. The fair’s atmosphere is very good, very friendly and very helpful. There is a good interaction between students and companies.”
Mr. Louie Julius Bagoyado, Information Management student, School of Engineering and Technology – “The fair is going smoothly at the moment and I found a lot of companies and students joining the fair. Since I still have two more semesters to go, I was just moving around and taking some photos and visiting some companies that require some of the skills I have.”
Miss Htet Htet Aung, Water Engineering and Management student, School of Engineering and Technology – “I am very happy to participate in the Industry Fair today.
