AIT alumni win road safety research prizes

Two Transportation Engineering alumni won road safety research prizes in 7th National Seminar on Traffic Safety held at Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani, Nonthaburi, from 20 to 22 June 2006.

The research topics are: The development of a GIS-based traffic accident database for police station by Dr. Wichuda Kowtanapanich and the late Prof. Yordphol Tanaboriboon (winner of enforcement session); and the impact of sleep deprivation on driving performance by Miss Nantawan Tippayanate and Prof. Yordphol (Winner of Engineering session).

Five sessions of road safety research included Enforcement, Engineering, Education, Emergency Medical Service, and Evaluation presented by road safety related academics and officers in this seminar.

Dr. Wichuda is currently a lecturer at the Department of Civil Engineering, Mahasarakham University, Thailand. She graduated with the degree of Doctor of Engineering, Transportation Engineering Program, AIT, in 2006. She was supervised by the late Prof. Yordphol. She received a full scholarship from the Royal Thai Government for the study at AIT. Her research is a pilot study that integrates road safety data and information from a police station with transportation engineering.

Miss Nantawan is currently an emergency room nurse at Khon Kaen Hospital. She graduated with the degree of Master of Science, Transportation Engineering Program, AIT, in 2006. She too was supervised by the late Prof. Yordphol. She was given a full scholarship from Thai Health Promotion Foundation for her study at AIT. Her research is one of pilot research studies that brings together the knowledge from the engineering side and medical expertise.
