AIT organizes 'Integrated Disaster Management' training
From 26 June to7 July 2006, AIT organized an intensive training program on 'Integrated Disaster Management.' Funded by the John F. Kennedy Foundation of Thailand, the program provided education and training on key issues relating to disaster mitigation, with a focus on an integrated approach.
The goal was to ensure that participants gained a better understanding of the breadth of issues related to natural disaster mitigation and management and are thus better prepared to address future disasters using a holistic and integrated approach, with consideration for the social, economic and environmental aspects.
Fifty-eight students from AIT and 10 participants from disaster-related organizations in Thailand attended the training program.
Prof. Tawatchai Tingsanchali and Dr. Kiyoshi Honda of the School of Engineering and Technology were the co-directors of the program. A number of resource persons in various areas from within AIT, the University of Rhode Island and other organizations were invited to lecture. Dr. Sukhum Navaphan , chairman of the Standing Committee of the John F. Kennedy Foundation of Thailand attended the opening ceremony on 26 June.
