AIT alumnus develops renewable green fuel
An AIT alumnus has determined a way to apply pure castor oil as an alternative to bio-diesel fuel, reports The Jakarta Post.
Dr. Robert Manurung is a visiting professor at the Biotechnology Research Center at Bandung Institute of Technology in Indonesia. He received his master’s in Energy Technology from AIT in 1982, proceeding to Rijks Universiteit Groningen in The Netherlands for his doctorate in 1994.
Dr. Manurung’s research in the use of oil from seeds of the jatropha plant – which grows commonly in Indonesia and throughout the tropics – as a useful fuel is chronicled in a story that appeared 7 August 2006.
