Vietnamese college visit could result in collaboration

A delegation from Hue College of Economics, Vietnam, visited AIT on 7 August 2006 to foster advancement in teaching, research, cultural understanding and the international reputations of both institutions.

Specifically addressed were the exchange of students and faculty, the possibility of a doctoral student exchange program, collaboration in research and training programs and exchange of academic information and materials.

Furthermore, Hue College expressed an interest to explore developing a Regional and Rural Development Planning Program with the School of Environment, Resources and Development and School of Management.

Prof. Vilas Wuwongse, AIT's vice president for external relations, paid a visit to Hue College of Economics recently, and this meeting was in follow-up.

The Hue delegation consisted of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoaung Huu Hoa, vice rector; Dr. Mai Van Xuan, dean of the faculty of Economics and Development Studies; Mr. Nguyen Van Vuong, head of the Office for Personnel and Administration; Mr. Nguyen Van Lac, head of the Finance Bureau; Mr. Bui Van Chiem, chairman of the trade union; Mr. Nguyen Van Cuong, secretary of the youth union; and Ms. Tran Thi Thu Trang, Office of Research Management and International Relations.

The delegation met Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe (above right), head of the External Relations and Communications Office, Mr. Tenzin Rabgyal and Mrs. Hnin Aye Lwin, program officers from the External Relations and Communications Office.

Members of the delegation visited the School of Environment, Resources and Development, where Prof. Jayant K. Routray and Dr. Mokbul Morshed Ahmad, assistant professor from Regional and Rural Development Planning explained and shared their own experiences with the visitors. The delegation then visited the School of Management, where Dr. Do Ba Khang, associate professor gave a briefing.
