Position: Sponsored and Contracted Projects Coordinator, AIT

The Research & Education Support Office seeks for its Sponsored & Contracted Projects Unit (SCPU), a Coordinator to provide administrative coordination and support to the Vice President-Research, Deans, Faculty and Staff in all aspects related to the conduct of externally sponsored and contracted research projects, as well as of outside professional activities (professional community service and personal consultancy) in accordance to Institute policy and procedures.

The successful candidate will work in close partnership with the Vice President-Research and the Head-Research & Education Support.

Qualifications

A master's degree in any field/discipline;
Knowledge and experience in research, project management and consultancy;
Excellent communication, writing skills and English proficiency; Thai language an advantage;
Proficient computer skills;
Team worker, good interpersonal skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Facilitate and assist faculty and project staff who undertake initial discussions with a prospective sponsor or client.
Provide advice and assistance to faculty and project staff in the preparation, documentation and submission of research project applications, with particular regard to expert requirements, timetabling, and approval by the Institute.
Coordinate with Finance for adequacy of the project budget elements.

Coordinate with the Legal Adviser in the review of contracts as to Institute liability and indemnity.

Monitor project implementation schedules, ensuring that all projects are completed within the prescribed time and approved budget.
Develop and maintain an information system and database of projects.

Create and submit reports, on a regular basis and upon request, to key persons in the AIT Central Administration.

Develop and maintain the SCPU website.

Perform surveys and scoping for funding opportunities, calls for expression of interest, consultancies, etc.

Online monitoring of projects and project accounts upon implementation of the on-line system for project account applications

Develop and formulate the systems and procedures for the creation of the Consulting Services section of the SCPU.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Position: Part-time English Language Teachers, Language Center

The Language Center has openings for part time English language teachers to teach writing skills to AIT students at the beginning, low intermediate and high intermediate levels. Course descriptions are available at http://www.languages.ait.ac.th/requiredcourses.htm

Part time teachers can start immediately. They can select to teach from 4 to 12 hours per week for about 12 weeks (depending on starting date). The deadline for application is 15 September 2006.

Qualified candidates will possess a good knowledge and command of English grammar and structure and have some classroom teaching experience; they will also be familiar with technical and academic style and terminology. We prefer teachers to have a master's degree or at least some experience with writing research reports. A background in teaching adults and proofreading and editing experience are also helpful.

Language teaching experience is preferred but not essential. The Language Center has a large bank of class materials for teachers to put to use and can assist teachers prepare class work.

AIT is an English-medium international graduate institution. The students in English classes are all working toward master's or doctoral degrees, but they come from a wide range of countries and have varied linguistic and academic backgrounds. It is exciting and demanding to work with this group of very motivated students. Position: Post-doc at Stockholm Environment Institute

The Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI) is an independent, international research institute specialising in sustainable development and environment issues. It works at local, national, regional and global policy levels. The SEI research programmes aim to clarify the requirements, strategies and policies for a transition to sustainability. SEI is currently looking for a post-doc to work with the Climate and Energy Programme on linkages between development and adaptation to climate change. Funding for this position has been provided by the European Commission through its collaborative project ADAM (Adaptation and Mitigation Strategies: Supporting European Climate Policy;
http://www.adamproject.eu). The position will initially be offered for the duration of ADAM, which is scheduled to end on 28 February 2009.

The post-doc will analyze opportunities for creating synergies between European post-2012 climate policy and international development assistance with respect to adaptation and natural disaster risk reduction. S/he will aim to provide strategic options for mainstreaming and restructuring development assistance, such that it promotes adaptation to climate change in ways that are acceptable to the donor and recipient communities. The research will be carried out together with developing-country partners and engage developing-country stakeholders. The successful candidate will have a PhD or equivalent research experience in political science, economics, development studies or a related discipline, be familiar with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and post-2012 process, and have affinity with environment-development issues in developing countries. Project development experience is an advantage, as the post-doc will be expected to initiate new research.

The position requires excellent oral and written presentation skills, fluency in English, a willingness to do interdisciplinary research in an international working environment, the ability to work both in a team and independently, and the ability to travel.
