Administration’s leadership evaluated

Administration's leadership evaluated

The institute has embarked on a systematic evaluation of its leadership and administration toward bringing about continuous improvement in its performance. In this context guidelines and procedures for the performance evaluation of the president, vice presidents, school deans, AIT Extension director and administrative office heads have now been developed and sent through an e-mail by AIT President Said Irandoust.

As outlined in the schedule below there will be face-to-face meetings between the president and the administrators' relevant constituencies. Since it may not be feasible to invite all the students, the Student Union has offered to appoint student representatives from the schools (two master's and one doctoral student) who will be invited to the face-to-face meetings with their respective schools.

3. Individual reflective meetings with administrators

A one-page brief prepared by the administrators highlighting accomplishments, outline of goals, indicators and objectives for the following year, and areas of high performance and areas that require improvement will be provided in advance of the meetings.

To better prepare for the forthcoming meetings, AIT President Irandoust would like members of the different constituencies to consider as a guideline the following aspects of the administrators being evaluated.

  • Leadership style of the administrator and nature of organizational values that he / she encourages at AIT.
  • Understanding of the internal and external environmental trends affecting AIT and preparedness to respond to these trends.
  • Understanding of the challenges faced by AIT and the corresponding strategies of AIT and preparedness to respond to these trends' challenges and implant strategies of AIT.
  • Quality improvement initiatives that have been undertaken. Whether these initiatives are making any impact in terms of customer satisfaction.
  • Are there any significant innovations made by the administrator ? Are these innovations making any impact in terms of enhancing competitiveness of AIT?
  • Relationship with internal and external stakeholders. In what way are these relationships impacting AIT?
  • How appropriate are the policies and procedures implemented by the administrator? Are these policies and procedures making any impact in terms of customer / employee satisfaction, revenue generation and cost reduction?

This is the first time the institute is embarking on such an exercise and in developing the format for the evaluation we have taken into account similar practices in other institutions. Such an exercise is important not only for our own internal purposes but also to our partners and stakeholders who have placed their support and trust in AIT.
