AIT alumnus named chief research scientist

Dr. Abdul Samad (Sami) Kazi, a 1996 and 2004 School of Civil Engineering alumnus has recently been promoted to the post of chief research scientist, Building Informatics at VTT - Technical Research Centre of Finland.

His main areas of interest and expertise include construction and project management, construction IT, virtual organizations, knowledge management, groupware solutions and inter-enterprise collaboration.

He has been involved in several European Union projects -- each project having a budget ranging from 500,000 to 25,000,000 euros -- on construction IT, virtual organizations, and knowledge management, including GLOBEMEN, CONCUR, Procure, eLEGAL, OSMOS, prodAEC, eCOGNOS, ICCI, VOSTER, ROADCON, NESKEY, eProCon, KnowledgeBoard, VE-Forum, MOSAIC, SWOP, ManuBuild, Buildnova, network4value, CoVEs and Strat-CON.

He has served the European Commission in various capacities, as an evaluator for Knowledge Management and eGovernment proposals in the Information Society Technologies (IST program, reviewer of IST projects on knowledge management, construction, mobile devices and expert evaluator for a portfolio of more than 20 knowledge management projects in the IST program. Dr. Kazi has edited several books in the areas of ICT for construction projects and processes, knowledge management, systemic innovation in construction projects, among others.

Dr. Kazi is listed in the Marquis Who's Who in Science and Engineering, 7th , 8th and 9th editions, and he was recently chosen for the Marquis Who's Who of Emerging Leaders (1st edition). He is also a fellow of the Entovation E100 Global Knowledge Leadership network.
