AIT alumnus visits AIT to attend a conference and explore collaborations with AIT
AIT alumnus of environmental engineering'1988, Associate Professor Dr. Kanagaratnam Baskaran (Bas), Deputy Dean, Faculty of Science and Technology of Deakin University, Australia, was on campus from 24 to 27 September 2006. During his visit to AIT, Dr. Bas attended and presented a paper at the '7th IWA Specialist Group Conference on Waste Stabilization Ponds: Advances in Pond Technology and Management' at AIT Conference Center and made some follow up discussions with AIT administration and respective schools/fields for AIT-Deakin collaboration activities.
On 26 September, Dr. Bas together with Mr. Sanjeev Jaysainghe, Head-External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO), had a brief meeting with Prof. Said Irandoust, President of AIT. In the afternoon, he visited Water and Engineering and Management (WEM) Field, discussing with Dr. Mukand Singh Babel, WEM Field Coordinator, on the possible establishment of AIT-Deakin University dual masters degree program in Water Engineering and Management. Joining the discussion were Mr. Kyaw Soe Hlaing, Alumni Relations Coordinator and Mr. Arturo G. Roa, Laboratory Supervisor (Hydraulics).
On 27 September, Dr. Bas had a meeting with Prof. Peter Haddawy, Vice President-Academic Affairs of AIT and discussed 'How AIT and Deakin could enhance collaborations under current MoU in potential collaboration areas: Nano-Bio-Info applications, Water, Material sciences etc.' Joining the discussion were Dr. Joydeep Dutta, Associate Dean School of Engineering and Technology (SET); Dr. Voratas Kachitvichyanukul, Field Coordinator of Design and Manufacturing Engineering (DME) and Industrial Engineering and Management (IEM)/SET; Dr. Preeda Parkpian, Field Coordinator of Environmental Engineering and Management (EEM), School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD); Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Head-ERCO; and Mr. Kyaw Soe Hlaing, Alumni Relations Coordinator. After the discussion, Dr. Bas also visited laboratories and facilities of Industrial Systems Engineering (ISE) program.
During his visit to AIT, Dr. Bas also met with Prof. Chongrak Polprasert, EEM/SERD and Prof. Athapol Noomhorm, Field Coordinator of Food Engineering and Bioprocess Technology (FEBT)/SERD.
